simple past tense

Kegunaan
Simple past tense digunakan untuk menyatakan sebuah tindakan yang telah selesai dilakukan ( pada masa lampau )

Modifier of time untuk simple past tense

Keterangan waktu yang sering digunakan dalam Simple Past Tense, antara lain:

• yesterday (kemarin)
• ago (yang lalu). Misalnya: a minute ago, two days ago, a week ago, three months ago, two years ago, etc.
• last (yang lalu). Misalnya: last week, last year, last two days, last Monday, last December, etc.
• this + morning/noon/afternoon/evening.

Note: walaupun ago dan last memiliki arti yang  sama, perhatikan perbedaan letaknya. Ago diletakkan setelah noun yang diterangkannya (i.e. noun + ago), sedangkan last diletakkan sebelum noun (i.e. last + noun).

Rumusnya :

1. kalimat verbal : ( + ) S + V2 + O

                            ( - ) S + didn't + V1 + O

                            ( ? ) didn't + S + V1 + O

Contoh : ( + ) we watched TV last night

              ( - ) we didn't watch TV last night

              ( ? ) didn't we watch TV last night ?

2. kalimat nominal : ( + ) S + tobe ( was/ were ) + adj/adv/N

                              ( - ) S + tobe ( was/ were) + not + adj/ adv/N

                              ( ? ) tobe (was/ were ) + S + adj/adv/ N

Contoh : ( + ) they were at the library last morning

              ( - ) they weren't at the library last morning

              ( ? ) were they at the library last morning ?

note: tobe was untuk subject : I, He, She, It dan tobe were untuk subject : We , They, You
